The Swedish Folklore story of Santa Lucia was something my Grandmother Nelson told me when I was a little girl. True Story! My Grandmother told me this legend when I was young and I only retained very vivid memories of pieces to the story. I could literally see Saint Lucia in her white gown and red sash floating through the black catacombs, lit only by her candle crown, handing out bread from a basket she was carrying. My imagination filled in the blanks. Until a few years ago, I finally decided to research the story that haunted me into adulthood. And I found out that it was not only a tragedy but also the legends and folklore that surrounded it were even more intriguing. Once I knew the sad fate of poor faithful Saint Lucia, I knew what I had to do. I had to again, fill in the blanks to the story…
